What compressing CR3 actually does
CR3 is Canon's newer RAW format for EOS R mirrorless and bodies from 2018 onward. It is what current Canon cameras produce when the menu says RAW, not JPEG. Developing drops the frame to 8 bits and shrinks it dozens of times — with no way back to exposure edits.
