What compressing DNG actually does
DNG is Adobe's open RAW format, meant as one standard in place of every vendor's own. Phones with a pro mode shoot DNG, and archives are converted to it so the frames still open in twenty years. Developing to JPEG shrinks the frame dozens of times but drops the 12–14 bit depth and the exposure headroom.
