What compressing X3F actually does
X3F is the RAW format of Sigma cameras with the Foveon sensor, where every pixel records all three colours. Only Sigma SD and dp Quattro bodies produce these files. The three-layer sensor makes files unusually heavy, so developing gives the most visible win.
