What a movie weighs
The size of a feature film is video bitrate multiplied by two hours of running time. Sound barely registers against that: even two tracks come to tens of megabytes next to gigabytes of picture.
What is lost besides picture quality
Worth knowing up front. One audio track carries over to the result: if the rip had several dubs — original, dubbed, a narrator track — only one survives. Extra subtitle tracks should not be counted on either.
If the file is valuable precisely for its set of tracks, do not compress it online — that is a job for a desktop tool like HandBrake, where tracks are picked by hand. What belongs here is different: shrinking a copy for a tablet, for a laptop on a trip, or for cloud storage.
Second: it takes time. Video is re-encoded frame by frame, and two hours of running time is not a matter of minutes. Third: plans cap the file size, so a multi-gigabyte rip may not fit — the current numbers are on the plans page.

Common questions
Do multiple audio tracks and subtitles survive?
No. One audio track carries into the compressed file; extra dubs and subtitles do not. If they matter, keep the original and compress a copy — or use a tool where tracks are selected manually.
How long does compressing a movie take?
Considerably longer than a short clip: video is re-encoded frame by frame, so a two-hour film takes accordingly. It is the heaviest operation on the site.
How far is it worth compressing?
For watching on a phone or tablet, 720p at 1.5 Mbps is plenty — about 1.4 GB for a whole film at a perfectly decent picture. Going below 480p is not advisable: faces and on-screen text start falling apart.
Can I upload a file of several gigabytes?
That depends on the plan — each has its own file size ceiling. Exact figures are on the plans page; the free tier is the most modest.
