What happens to transparency

PNG can have a transparent background; a PDF page cannot, and this tool does not fill transparency with white: see-through areas take the colour stored underneath, most often black. A logo with a transparent background can end up on black. If that matters, put the image on a white background before converting.

The pixel size is kept, but the picture does not stay lossless inside the PDF: it is written as a JPEG at standard quality. Sharp edges and small text in screenshots can pick up light artefacts.

When PNG to PDF is the right move

Forms, ticketing systems and print services often accept only PDF. A screenshot of a confirmation, a logo for a print run, a diagram for a report — wrapping it in a PDF is the fastest way to make it accepted without editing the image itself.

Each PNG becomes a single one-page PDF; combining several images into one multi-page document is not handled here.

It is not filled with white: transparent areas take the colour stored underneath them, most often black. If you need a white background, add it to the image before converting.

Does the PNG lose quality inside the PDF?
